Triple DESTAN: three art-forms combined in an oriental style
Triple DESTAN combines Dance, Music and Writing. The project was born in Tokyo, where well-known dancer Amigo (founding member of the "Flying Steps") and Ritsche&Zast were taking part of an Berlin Street Art exhibition at the Tokyo Wondersite Gallery.
DESTAN is the Turkish word for "story". Each of the artists is telling a story with his own artform. At the same time, one story is told together. Since Amigo is of Turkish origin, it's also about oriental roots, oriental music and art combined with Berlin urban styles.
What started as a spontanious action, was first officially presented in February 2006 at the dance competition "Juste Debout Germany" at Tanzhaus NRW, Duesseldorf. In the future several videos are going to be released also featuring drummer Christian Marien, who recently has been added to the project.
On October 16th, the new DVD of Ritsche
Koch (trumpet) and Thomas Bratzke ("Zast", painting),
was released. It features 6 short films which document various performances
of the two artists, also involving other musicians. The performance
spots range from subway stations to old office buildings. Some of
the movies were filmed at live performances, some show quick night
actions at outside locations. Still, the main aspect of all movies
is to search for different communcation forms between writing and
music.
This August a group of about 20- 30 writers
and Street- Artists from Berlin and other countries will build a
small city with the aid of interested residents and kids over a
period of three weeks.
The artists will covert their style, which is influenced by the
construction and deconstruction of letters, into the architecture
of their buildings. The “tag“, the expression of the
writer reduced to a signature, will become three-dimensional and
thus more accessible. It will be possible to walk through the interior
of a signature. The artists and the involved teenagers themselves
have the choice and freedom to give the city its name, shape and
colour.
The individual ambition to construct a house will be devoted to
the collective ambition to build up a city. The writers themselves
will take on the responsible roles of architects, landlords and
urban planners.
The city will be a public exhibition space during the construction
period and it will be finished by the opening date of Backjumps-
The Live issue #2 on the 18th of August 2005. From August 19th on,
the City Of Names will be preserved for 2 weeks. It is planned to
offer theatre, puppet theatre, concerts and movie events in the
